The travel bug bit me in December and I decided to spontaneously book a trip to Bangkok.

Day 1: Flying into Bangkok via Thai Lion Air

My exploration of Bangkok began with a pocket-friendly flight on Thai Lion Air. The economy class ticket, priced at SGD 153 for a one-way journey to Don Mueang International Airport, turned out to be a steal, especially considering the included 20 kg check-in allowance. I opted for seats at the front (2F).

Wide legroom on Thai Lion Air

A surprisingly spacious legroom and well-maintained plane set the tone for a pleasant journey

Arriving ahead of schedule at 1:17 pm, the efficient disembarkation from the front row was an added perk. Keep in mind that as is commonplace in Don Mueang, remote stands are to be expected. The remote stand necessitates a bus ride to the terminal, but this minor inconvenience is offset by the swift immigration process.

Pro Tip: Choose the front row for quick disembarkation, especially if you're in a hurry.

By 2pm, I was whisked away in my pre-booked airport transfer via Klook, providing hassle-free transportation to my accommodation: the 5-star Sindhorn Midtown.

Pro Tip: Use Klook for airport transfers; it ensures a smooth transition from the airport to your hotel. Meet at gate 5 (turn left when you exit the transit area) and look for your name.

Sindhorn Midtown - An amazing hotel

The Sindhorn Midtown exceeded expectations with a spacious room (Living area and a separate bedroom) and a plethora of amenities, from a washing machine to a microwave, making it an ideal home away from home.

Hotel Room
Living area with Kitchen

This is a fairly new hotel in the Sindhorn area, located within walking distance to the BTS stop Chit Lom and Central world Flyover. The hotel is flanked by not one, but two HUGE 7-11s, and you have a Starbucks Reserve right opposite the hotel. There are shopping arcades to the left and right of the hotel as well. You can find restaurants at Mercure Ville, which is to the left of the hotel. To the right is Sindhorn Village, where you can find Acai, Toast, multiple restaurants and a supermarket.

The room came with two televisions, and a huge balcony that overlooks the hotel’s garden.

Hotel Bed

The bed was huge and comfy, the pillows nice and firm - without any of the funky smells you may get with other hotels.

The hotel provides all the amenities you would expect from a 5 star hotel, including hair brushes, toothbrushes and toothpaste, Cotton buds, shaving kits, in room slippers and bathrobes! One thing I really like is that the room comes with universal plugs and a plethora of USB - A plugs, so you really have a lot of options to charge your electrical items. There were even bluetooth speakers at each side of the bed!

Central World Delights

After settling down, I made our way to Central World, which proved to be a treasure trove of entertainment and gastronomic delights. The mall boasts enormous Pokémon inflatables outside, catching the eye of anyone passing by.

The Care Bear Cafe inside adds a touch of nostalgia, offering a whimsical dining experience. For gaming enthusiasts, an arcade provides hours of fun, and the vastness of the mall itself is a shopper's paradise. Do allocate some time to fully explore this area.

Pro Tip: Central World is not just a mall; it's an experience. Allocate sufficient time for exploration.

A noteworthy dining option is 'The Allium,' where although slightly pricey, the culinary experience is nothing short of amazing.

Day 2: Culinary Adventures and Wildlife Encounters

Day 2 kicked off with a simple breakfast from 7-11, setting the tone for a day filled with culinary delights and wildlife encounters. Our first stop was The Little Zoo. This proved to be a hidden gem, offering a fantastic selection of animals in a friendly environment. It costs 450 Baht for a drink, free socks and cookies.

There is a mall nearby (People Park Mall) with diverse food options and houses a second-hand Japanese goods store, TOPs supermarket and an arcade. So if you’re too early for your time slot you can definitely kill some time here.

The adventure continued at Seacon Square, where a cat event, Dairy Queen, Tim Hortons, an indoor theme park, and even rollerblading awaited.

Parents: This is the perfect place to spend an afternoon with your kids!

Day 3: A Day of Historical and Wildlife Exploration

I joined a day tour from Klook, and the itinerary included Safari World, and the Death railway!

The day started at 8 am, meeting outside the mall and heading straight to the zoo. The highlight was the opportunity to feed lion cubs, and the process is streamlined — head directly to the table and choose from the available packages. The subsequent bus ride through the wildlife park is a unique experience, leading to the walking zoo area.

Feeding the cubs cost 550 baht - 1000 Baht for different species.

Pro Tip: Opt for the right side of the bus during the safari for the best wildlife views. Also, book early if you want the opportunity to take pictures with the Giraffes!

The walking area of the zoo is where you can feed baby goats and bunnies, and is also where the animal shows are. Though I felt that the shows could be given a miss.

The journey continued to the Death Railway, with photo stops and a scenic train ride providing a historical perspective.

We then boarded a train to head to the Bridge on the River Kwai

Pro Tip: Opt for the right side of the train for the River views, the left side is more for greenery.

There are souvenir shops and bakeries in the area so you can do some shopping while admiring the view.

After the day tour ended at around 8pm, I decided to head to Yaowarat (Chinatown) to soak up the atmophere. The queue for the famous Yaowarat Toasted buns werent that long so I decided to give them a try. Selection is via filling up a form. (Open till midnight)

Yes, I did order 10 buns for myself...

Given the price of 25 Baht, I felt that it was super reasonable, and they were very generous with the fillings. Personally I felt that some of the flavours were a little too strong but I would go back for the Nuts, Strawberry and Sugar Butter flavours!

Next was a visit to Chocolate Ville, an enchanting dining and entertainment destination. It was such a whimsical place, this is a must go!

The night concluded with a visit to Liabduan Night market; this night market is catered more to locals, but that means you get to enjoy better prices and delicious local food!

I tried their BBQ pork and chicken skewers and they were amazing! highly recommended.

There were many stalls selling clothes, makeup, phone cases and even pets!

This place may be worth a visit after Chocolate ville

Day 4: Shopping Extravaganza and Cultural Explorations

No trip is complete without having boat noodles and my personal favourite is the boat noodles at Victory Monument (Nearest BTS: Victory Monumen, key in "Victory Monument Boat Noodles" in your preferred map app and look for the orange polo tees on the staff). Each bowl is 16 Baht each so you can order to your heart’s content.

Chatuchak market and Jodd Fairs Dan Nemarit offered a unique blend of clothing and design options, with the latter being less crowded but equally worthwhile.

This night market has many interesting concepts (The castle) and even hot air balloon displays.

There are quite a few unique stalls here:

Fried Banana
Super unique Grilled Banana with delicious sauce - all for 45 Baht
Milkshake Store
Milk shaped store - also available at Chatuchak, but has long queues

Next is a visit to a Catnip House Cat cafe:

Meowrror, Meowror on the wall...

It was not crowded when I was there, and the entrance fee of 200 Baht includes a free drink. There are two levels to play with. Sadly, one of the cats pooped and promptly spread it all across the floor, so the second floor was out of bounds shortly after I arrived.

After this, I went for an exhilarating go-kart experience at Easykart at RCA.

Go Kart

Go Kart Menu

Pro Tip: Register for the go-kart package, ensuring both excitement and a complimentary T-shirt. The races can be kept for up to one year.

Do take note that the cutoff to register yourself is 10.30pm! I saw people turned away at the door after that time.

I ended off the night with some late-night shopping at Emsphere and Marche Thonglor added a perfect ending to a journey filled with diverse experiences in the heart of Bangkok. The supermarket at Emsphere is very new, and opens till 3am. Marche Thonglor is open 24 hours - perfect for last minute souvenir shopping.

Pro Tip: Explore the late-night offerings in areas like Emsphere and Thong Lo for a different perspective of the city.

Day 5: Flight Home

I woke bright and early for my flight home. There will be a flight review coming soon!
